The Moose Returns – Northern Voice Scheduled for February 2008

Northern Voice, Canada’s two-day, non-profit personal blogging and social media conference has been scheduled for Friday, February 22nd through Saturday, February 23rd , 2008. The fourth annual conference will held at UBC’s main campus (Forestry Sciences Centre, 2424 Main Mall) rather than the Robson Square campus of previous years to accommodate a greater number of attendees.

If you are a local blogger (including text bloggers, videobloggers, podcasters, and photobloggers), are interested in becoming a blogger or just keen to learn more about personal publishing, social media and Web 2.0, you won’t want to miss this conference. If you’re not local and this describes you in a nutshell, keep your eyes open for a seat sale …

The event has grown due to the overwhelming community response … But the core values remain the same — we have held the line on costs, we try to make the event family-friendly by offering space for parents to establish cooperative child-minding, and we do the main event on Saturday so non-professionals can attend.

And although it is a weblog conference, the range of topics may involve anything that webloggers are interested in… that is, just about anything. Previous years have had plenty of geekery mixed with panels on how blogging interacts with family life, education, travel, photography, community building and establishing professional profiles. Speakers range from the big names at the top of the Technorati rankings to first-time presenters with a passion to share.

And The Moose also throws a pretty kicking party.

The conference is open to the public – and don’t worry if you’re not especially geeky or technical. While a portion of the program is technical, the bulk focuses on social and cultural aspects of blogging. And unlike other ‘geeky’ conferences where attendance can be predominantly male, 40% of attendees at previous Northern Voice conferences were women and another 20% were new to blogging. Speaker selection is in process, but previously has included big names at the top of the Technorati rankings to first-time presenters with a passion to share.

Registration isn’t open yet, but will be soon … previous years filled up FAST, so if you’re interested don’t sit on the fence! The fee last year was $30 for either day, or $50 for both days.

Stay tuned – we’ll post an update when registration officially opens. Visit http://2008.northernvoice.ca for complete details. If there is a particular topic you would like to see addressed, participate in NV’s call for ideas.
