Worldwide Domain Registrations Climb To More Than 153 Million In 2007 – According to VeriSign’s quarterly Domain Name Industry Brief, at the close of 2007 there were more than 153 million domain name registrations worldwide, a 27% annual increase. The number of .com and .net domain names surpassed 80 million, a 24% increase; and ccTLD registrations grew to 58 million, a 33% increase from 2006. The largest TLDs are .com, .de, .net, .cn, .uk and .org.
CIRA Announces 2008 Board Elections and Annual General Meeting – The Canadian Internet Registration Authority (CIRA) has announced that its 2008 Board of Directors election will commence with a call for nominations on May 1, and will conclude with online voting from September 18-25. CIRA’s Annual General Meeting will take place in Vancouver on September 10.
