Nominet Board Involves Itself in Board Election – Nominet Board members have taken the unusual step of contacting the organization’s membership “about the future independence of Nominet”. A letter, sent during the organization’s Board elections which close on April 30, points out that three Board candidates propose a distribution of Nominet’s accumulated profits, but that a legal opinion has been obtained indicating that such a distribution is not allowed under the organization’s current constitution. Stating that the current Board structure combined with low voter turnout makes Nominet vulnerable to capture, the current Board is encouraging members to vote for the adoption of a resolution to introduce independent non-executive directors, and not to vote for any of the three candidates that are against the resolution. Two of the candidates have put up a website arguing against the resolution.
