The ICANN meetings in Cairo are under way and will continue through November 7. One of the main topics to be covered is the planned introduction of new generic top-level domains (gTLDs). Other topics include: internationalized domain names (IDNs), single-character second-level domain names, improving institutional confidence, and the recent independent reviewer’s report on the ICANN Board. Many sessions will be webcast.

DotMobi, the registry operator for the .mobi domain, has announced that more than one million .mobi domains have been registered since the TLD’s launch two years ago.

CIRA has announced that it has started the process of implementing DNSSEC, a
set of security extensions to the Domain Name System (DNS).
