dotMobi to allow one and two character domain names

logo_dotMobi.gif Last November, dotMobi received approval from ICANN to allocate single and double character .MOBI domain names. dotMobi is one of the few registries to offer one and two character domain names.  Unlike the usual domain allocation process, which is first-come, first-served, the registry will be accepting Request for Proposals for these domains to ensure high quality content of mobile device compatible sites.

Companies such as HP and LG could now register their .MOBI, as long as they commit to fully mobile-compatible content. Domainers and domain speculators will be excluded from the process.

Once the domains have been allocated, they will be locked by the Registry to prevent any domain transfers that have not been authorized by the dotMobi registry.

There is a form on the dotMobi website to submit a request for a one or two character domain name.
