Domain Name Registrations Reach 209.8 Million – At the end of March, 2011, there were 209.8 million domain name registrations worldwide, according to the latest Domain Name Industry Brief published by VeriSign. This represents an annual growth of 15.3 million or 7.9%. The annual growth as reported three months ago was 12.1 million or 6.3%. Registrations from the ccTLDs stood at 81.7 million, a 5.1% annual increase. The ten largest domains are: .com, .de, .net, .uk, .org, .info, .nl, .eu, .cn, and .ru, with United Kingdom (.uk) moving from fifth to fourth and China (.cn) moving from seventh to ninth. Australia (.au) and Canada (.ca) were the only top 20 ccTLDs exceeding 20% year over year growth.
.CA Impact Award Winners Announced – CIRA announced the winners of its first annual .CA Impact Awards. The winners for each category are: ArtsAlive.CA for eLearning, OpenMedia.CA for small business, UppercaseGallery.CA for non-profit, and NewPad.CA for web technology and design.

- From Paul Vixie’s blog: a paper by a number of DNS experts describing security and technical concerns raised by the DNS filtering requirements in the Preventing Real Online Threats to Economic Creativity and Theft of Intellectual Property (“PROTECT IP”) Act of 2011, legislation currently before the U.S. Senate.
