Here is a selection of recent items:
- As part of its planned implementation of Domain Name System Security Extensions (DNSSEC) in the .CA domain, CIRA has released a DNSSEC Practice Statement (DPS). The DPS “provides an operational outline of all the details on how CIRA plans to develop, maintain and manage DNSSEC deployment”. CIRA is inviting comments on the DPS, and has also launched an online knowledge centre dedicated to DNSSEC.
- The ICANN Board has reaffirmed ICANN’s commitment to open a second New gTLD round as expeditiously as possible.
- The Bi-Annual Domain Name Report on .ORG [pdf] has been published by the Public Interest Registry. The .ORG domain grew by 9.9% in 2011, surpassing 9.5 million registrations.
- Commenting on ICANN’s FY2013 Operational Plan Framework, a working group of the ccNSO has stated that the document is a considerable improvement over last year’s Framework. However, the working group has major concerns including: ICANN’s need “to be professionalized in a number of areas in order to obtain operational excellence and world class corporate governance”, and a lengthening list of new and carried-over strategic projects.
- Byron Holland, Mark Jeftovic, and Michael Geist have offered interesting comments on Bill C-30, the “Protecting Children from Internet Predators Act“.
