ShakeOutBC Earthquake Drill at the Webnames.ca Office

Webnames.ca
recently participated in the ShakeOutBC earthquake drill on October 18th, 2012. The event was a province-wide event aimed at raising awareness on what to do in the event of an earthquake.

What ShakeOutBC is about

Since BC is located in a seismically active area, it is important that people are familiar about the safety measures that need to be taken during an earthquake. ShakeOutBC simplified the earthquake drill through three simple steps; Drop, Cover, and Hold On! This is a good way to remember what to expect in the event of an earthquake and what to do to prevent injuries. Earthquakes generally last only a few seconds but that short time can cause massive damage to buildings and any surrounding facilities. By ducking under a desk and staying under it, we can avoid falling debris, broken glass or other falling objects that can cause serious injury.

dch_art.jpgParticipants of the event also made history that day. The ShakeOutBC earthquake drill is considered as the largest earthquake drill in Canadian history with over 590,000 people participating in the drill! Participants, ranging from residencies, schools, government agencies, organizations and companies, all took part in performing the Drop, Cover and Hold On drill.

Webnames.ca in Action

Webnames.ca also took part in the event. We had the earthquake drill right inside our office and we took pictures as proof!
