New Generic Top-Level Domains Delegated – The first new generic top-level domains (gTLDs) in ICANN’s New gTLD Program have been delegated, or entered into the root zone of the Internet. The operators of these domains can now make the final arrangements required to offer domain names under the new TLDs available for registration. The new TLDs are in Arabic, Chinese, and Cyrillic scripts. They are:
- شبكة (xn--ngbc5azd) – Arabic for “web/network”
Registry: International Domain Registry Pty. Ltd. - онлайн (xn--80asehdb) – Cyrillic for “online”
Registry: CORE Association - сайт (xn--80aswg) – Cyrillic for “site”
Registry: CORE Association - 游戏(xn--unup4y) – Chinese for “game(s)”
Registry: Spring Fields, LLC
The first of these domains, شبكة or dot-Shabaka, has entered its Sunrise Period during which rights holders registered with the Trademark Clearinghouse may apply for a domain name. This will be followed by a Landrush Period in January, and General Availability in February.
CIRA Board Officers Selected – CIRA’s Board of Directors has selected its officers for the 2013-2014 term. The new Chair is Susan Mehinagic, the new Vice-Chair is Bill Sandiford, and the new Secretary is Carole Mackaay.
