New gTLDs and the Trademark Clearinghouse: What you need to know

It has been years in the making but new generic Top Level Domains (gTLDs) are set to launch this year. Once all the new domain extensions begin to launch things will happen at a furious pace. The first domains are expected to be released between the end of September and the end of October 2013. The first extensions out of the gate will be Internationalized Domain Names (IDNs); in other words, a domain extension in a different character set such as Chinese, Russian, Korean or Cyrillic. The IDN gTLD launch will be followed by the more standard gTLDs such as .BLOG, .APP  or .WEB. Overall, the gTLD launch will release close to 1300 new domain extensions over a period of three to five years.

Webnames.ca is Proud to Sponsor vansunkidsfund.ca

After a particularly frustrating day this September, Carrie Gelson, a teacher at Seymour Elementary, an inner city school in Vancouver, sat down and wrote an open letter to the people of Vancouver.  In it, she voiced her frustration with the difficulties of trying to teach children who come to school hungry, cold and emotionally stressed.  She told of children arriving at school without breakfast, from homeless shelters and without appropriate clothing for the weather, of children whose home lives are so stressful they breakdown in the middle of a lesson.

Webnames.ca President Cybele Negris Speaks at TEDxCapU November 5th

TEDxCapU_black-small.gifOn Saturday, November 5th , Cybele Negris, Webnames’ President, will be a speaker at the TEDxCapU.  Cybele’s talk will address technology in an event themed: R U READY?, that is all about the impact of change on business.

“The speed of change in Technology, Expectations, Demographics is frustrating, challenging, exciting and resource-consuming! Change also presents OPPORTUNITY.  How are we small and medium sized business owners choosing to embrace change and seize opportunity? How are our actions directly impacting the future of our success?”

These are the questions and ideas that will be addressed by Cybele and a fascinating panel of speakers from diverse areas with two speakers addressing each topic: technology, expectations and demographics.

TED is a non-profit devoted to “Ideas Worth Spreading”. It started in 1984 as a conference bringing together people from three worlds: Technology, Entertainment, Design.

Created in the spirit of TED’s mission, “ideas worth spreading,” the TEDx (x=independent) program is designed to give communities, organizations and individuals the opportunity to stimulate dialogue through TED-like experiences at the local level.

The content and design of each TEDx event is unique and developed independently, but all TEDx events have several features in common.

•    TED’s celebrated format: A suite of short, carefully prepared talks, demonstrations and performances (live, or just TEDTalks videos from TED.com) on a wide range of subjects to foster learning, inspiration and wonder — and to provoke conversations that matter
•    TEDTalks videos: A minimum of two pre-recorded talks from the acclaimed TEDTalks video series (these talks are available free on TED.com)
•    Bias-free programming: Lack of any commercial, religious or political agenda

Only 100 tickets will be sold for this event.  Come join 384 of Vancouver’s movers and shakers, entrepreneurs, business leaders and distinguished guests as they come together to share ideas, uncover possibilities and stretch brains.  The nine incredible speakers will be framed with TED Talks, live music, art and networking.  Thousands more will participate via live streaming, Twitter and website access.

Tickets can be purchased HERE
