What We Learned From Our First Year as a ClimateSmart Business

We’re excited to be entering our second year of being a certified ClimateSmart business. With Canada’s 1.2+ million small- and medium-sized businesses having direct control over roughly 200 million tonnes of carbon pollution – the same amount produced each year by every car, truck, train, plane, and ship in the country – we were motivated to do better and control what we could to decrease our impact. Having recently renewed our certification for 2018, I thought I would share some of our learnings and findings now that we have year over year data to sift through, as opposed to last year when we established our baseline.

Webnames Achieves Climate Smart Certification

After a lot of hard work, we are proud to announce that last month we officially became Climate Smart certified.  This was achieved through several training sessions, the creation of an exhaustive inventory of our greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) and of a GHG reduction plan. For those of you considering doing the certification – and we encourage you to do so! — the Climate Smart group, provides some very smart software for this purpose.  Once you’ve collected all of your data and entered it to the system, it reveals not only an organization’s gross emissions for the year but an illuminating summary of where those emissions come from.

Come and join us fight cancer!

Webnames.ca is a proud supporter of the Canadian Cancer Society and we have set up the Webnames.ca Cancer Prevention Fund to support cancer research and prevention.

With that in mind, we’re hosting a soccer tournament on June 28th, 2015 at the Strathcona Park on 857 Malkin Avenue, Vancouver, BC V6A 2K5. Two teams from Webnames.ca and two teams from our neighbour, Uniserve, will be competing against each other in a round robin tournament. All proceeds generated from the competition will be donated to the Canadian Cancer Society to build the Cancer Prevention Centre, and we’d love to meet you there!

BC Government Takes Steps to Cut Red Tape

Small businesses play a critical role in the Canadian economy. In BC alone, over one million people are employed by small businesses and over 98 per cent of all Canadian businesses are classified as a small business. With such a vital role in Canada’s economy, BC Minister Naomi Yamamoto appointed George Farkas to lead the Small Business – Doing Business with Government Project.
