Today, over 74 million websites use WordPress to power their website online including big name brands like Fortune, Time Inc., TechCrunch, The New Yorker and ESPN. Four Obscure But Useful WordPress Plugins

by Marko from Support

On a daily basis, we receive calls from customers asking about WordPress and a good portion of these questions are focused on useful plugins.

With millions of different plugins available on WordPress and thousands of popular plugins, I could have easily created a comprehensive list that included an SEO plugin like Yoast or a great and free form generator like Contact 7, but these plugins have already been reviewed and included in a number of review sites.

Moving from Web Builder to WordPress: Kaminsky and Co.

In 2011, Webnames.ca launched our latest WordPress web design
service called FastTrack. FastTrack was designed with small businesses
in mind and aimed at fulfilling the needs of our customers while still
making it affordable.

One of the things we did when we introduced
this product was to transition some of our Web Builder clients (a legacy product) to a WordPress website.

A client who we had the pleasure to work with was Kaminsky and Co.
In order to determine how to best meet the needs of Kaminsky and Company, we
asked them a couple of questions about what they wanted to
get out of their new website and any current issues they had with their
old one. (Before on the left, after on the right – below).

WordPress Website Highlight: www.beansandbabes.ca

Webnames.ca launched a web design service with small business in mind last year called FastTrack. FastTrack web design provides a professional website, built quickly and affordably. This program has been a huge success and we wanted to highlight some of our FastTrack clients.

This month, we take a look at beansandbabes.ca We asked Jordan, founder of Beans and Babes Cafe, a few questions about their experience with Webnames.ca and how things have been since working with us. Beans & Babes is the ultimate family restaurant and indoor playground.  The cafe features fresh, local ingredients, fantastic coffee and a welcoming environment for the whole family.
beansandbabes.jpg
How important is your website to your business? What does it do for you?

Our website is a critical tool in helping us place ourselves in the restaurant market. The clean, upscale design of our site tells potential customers what they can expect when they visit us, and the ease of navigation helps visitors discover our many great features.

Why did you decide to invest in a new website?

I was approached by Webnames.ca and offered an upgrade on our site design and hosting platform….the price was right.

When choosing a company to work on your site what factors came in to play?

My knowledge on web design and web hosting is very limited.  I was looking for a company to partner with to build a site that really reflected the identity of my company and provided me with enough input to ensure that our message wasn’t compromised.

Tell us a bit about your experience working with Webnames.ca. How was the process?

I was resistant to having Webnames.ca redesign my existing site because I really liked the site as it was.  I was incredibly surprised at the how well the re-design captured our identity and conveyed our corporate message.  Very pleasantly surprised.

Did you learn anything new by going through this process?

I learned how important a strong web presence is to the success of my business.  As soon as the new site went live, people mentioned how good it looked.  I didn’t realize how much web traffic we were actually getting.

Has your new website had any effect on your business?

Our website has drawn in people to the restaurant.  We offer many specialty menu items and having those listed on our website is a big draw for business.

Is social media integrated with your website?

We have integrated social media into our website because our market is accustomed to up-to-the minute communications.  We use social media flash messages to bring people to the site for the longer message (and eventually to the restaurant).

How easy has it been for you to manage your site and keep it up to date?

The site features are super friendly and intuitive.  It makes it very easy to keep the site up-to-date.  There are no code-languages to learn, just point and click.

What would you tell someone who was considering working with Webnames.ca on their new website?

I have recommended Webnames.ca to a couple of friends, and will always share my Webnames.ca experience.

WordPress Website Highlight: www.christinetrischuk.com

Webnames.ca launched a web design service with small business in mind last year called FastTrack. FastTrack web design service, provides a professional website, built quickly and affordably. This program has been a huge success and we wanted to highlight some of our FastTrack clients.

The month, we dive into christinetrischuk.com. We asked Christine Trischuk a few questions regarding her experience with Webnames.ca and how things have been since working with Webnames.ca.

Christine Trischuk is a businesswoman, networker, volunteer and looks to make a difference in her community.

christinetrischuk.pngHow important is your website to your business? What does it do for you?

The value in having my website is multifaceted, as I use it for business and personal use. In business, I am continuously trying to keep clients and colleagues abreast of all the projects that I am working on, and that may be of interest to them. On a personal level, the website has given me an outlet to express myself through my blog, and more web presence to talk about my charitable work. I have been able to create and define an online identity that links the two together, for those who have previously only known one side of me.

Why did you decide to invest in a new website?

Investing in a new website is essentially investing in myself, and my personal brand. I didn’t want an “ad based” format that was going to look cheap and distracting to my viewer. I originally started a website with Webnames.ca under their “Web Builder” platform, and after a year, we had the decision to have it upgraded to a WordPress format. I couldn’t be happier with the results.

When choosing a company to work on your site what factors came in to play?

I wanted to work with a company that was local and cared about their customers and meeting their needs. From the start of the process, I was impressed with the standards and the time that was invested in my project. I was contacted via email and phone, and the personal aspect to the transaction made me want to refer their services on.

Tell us a bit about your experience working with Webnames.ca. How was the process? Did everything go as expected? Were there any surprises?

The process with Webnames.ca couldn’t have gone any better. The process was completely smooth, and I had customer service support through the entire process. I had to reconfirm a detail before the site went live, and the team responded to my emailed concerns immediately and efficiently, to ensure that I was happy and satisfied with the results.

Did you learn anything new by going through this process? If yes, what was it?

I learned the value in staying connected to the world. Through my website I can control the tone and personal ambiance around details and topics associated with me. I blog on topics that I find relevant to me, and have enjoyed the writing experience.

Has your new website had any effect on your business, either day to day or overall? If so, please explain.

The website since its launch has had a huge impact on myself personally and professionally. It has brought me more business, more contacts and a broader reach to an audience that I didn’t realize I had. It has also made me more conscious of my personal brand and how I can display my values to the world.

Is social media integrated with your website? If yes, why do you think it’s important to you and your business?

Social media is integrated with my website. The importance is linking to further mediums where I connect and interact with my audience. Since the launch of the website and connecting social media, my Twitter followers and Facebook fans have grown every day.

How easy has it been for you to manage your site and keep it up to date?

The training that I received from Webnames.ca was fantastic. I had an informative training session on WordPress with Sean before the site went live, and he was quick to answer all of my questions and make sure that I was comfortable navigating the site and able to upload new content to keep it current.

What would you tell someone who was considering working with Webnames.ca on their new website?

That the money that they spend with Webnames.ca on their new site would be money well spent.

This month we look at evolveexecutivecoaching.com. We asked Karin Wills, founder of Evolve Executive Coaching, a few questions about her experience with Webnames.ca and how things have been since working with us.
Thumbnail image for evolvecoaching.jpg
Karin Wills works with executives to improve accountability, engagement and productivity. She identifies results based solutions specific to leadership needs.

How important is your website to your business? What does it do for you?

My website is very important to my business as it provides a place for executives and emerging leaders to discover what products and services we offer, pick up some leadership tips, locate articles of interest, contact me to arrange an exploratory session or ask a general question. It offers links to related resources that also may be of interest to anyone considering a coach to help them accelerate their success.

Why did you decide to invest in a new website?

Websites provide many benefits to the business and to potential clients-they have replaced the yellow pages, offer helpful information to people searching for a vendor or service provider and can be updated quickly to stay current.

When choosing a company to work on your site what factors came in to play?

I was looking for one place to purchase my domain name, host my site, create and help to manage my site, and to offer some training and ongoing support. I also like to work with local business when possible.

Tell us a bit about your experience working with Webnames. How was the process? Did everything go as expected? Were there any surprises?

The surprise about working with Webnames was how easy the process was. Everyone I talked to through the process was so helpful and pleasant to work with. The product was professional and I have had very positive feedback from people who have visited the site. I also very much appreciated how user friendly the process was from the tips and templates to help create content and choose a template through to learning how to make easy updates myself. And of course for the budget conscious, it was truly cost effective.

Did you learn anything new by going through this process? If yes, what was it?

I learned about using WordPress, enough that I can make some updates on my own and to know when to get help. I also learned a lot about how to create content for a website that is specific to my business-the tips and templates provided made a real difference to how quickly I was able to create my content and choose a template.

Has your new website had any effect on your business, either day to day or overall? If so, please explain.

It is too early for me to answer this question – it has only been a little less than two months. I think that different types of businesses will have faster or slower response times depending on what you are selling. I do know that I am getting very positive feedback from many of my connections. I expect this information to be available in a few months though. At this point I know the content, appeal and ease of use of the site is well received.

Is social media integrated with your website? If yes, why do you think it’s important to you and your business?

Yes, I have included LinkedIn and Twitter, as I am active in both those networks. Social Media is a very nice way to offer more information about how I work, what I am interested in, what new information I am keeping up to date with, new resources I share, and additional ways to connect with me. Social Media offers a more rounded view of ones professional knowledge as well as each network offers different ways of sharing information.

How easy has it been for you to manage your site and keep it up to date? What would you tell someone who is considering working with Webnames.ca on their new website?

So far, it has been much easier to manage my site than I expected. I am already planning to add some new things, ideas that came to me after ‘living’ with it for a little while and asking others what else they would like to see there. I already tell people looking to create their new site to consider Webnames – I know my experience was much smoother than expected – I am definitely a happy client.

The Internet is Watching You!

The Internet is Watching You!

That’s right! This Halloween, forget ghosts, vampires or zombies, because the real stalker out there is the actually the internet!

In all seriousness, this blog post is about the benefits of web hosting your site in Canada, but I thought I’d wrap it in a Halloween theme. And yes, it’s true, we’re all being watched by the internet. Still don’t believe it? If you’re in Canada, just type www.google.com into the address bar of your browser. You will probably note that you just got redirected to www.google.ca. And you can type google.com over and over all you want, and you will always get bounced back to google.ca (though if you REALLY want to go to www.google.com, there’s a link in the bottom right hand corner of the google.ca search page).

FastTrack, our web design solution, was launched by Webnames a year ago to cater to small businesses and individuals looking for a professional website. The web design service provides a professional website that is built quickly (within 8-10 business days) and affordably. The program has been a huge success and we wanted to highlight some of our client’s results.

creeksidescreencap.jpgThis month we look at creeksidechiropractic.ca. We asked Dr. Mandy Downie, co-founder of Creekside Chiropractic, a few questions about her experience with Webnames.ca and how things have been since working with Webnames.ca.

Please describe your business in 25 words or less.

Creekside Chiropractic is a community based family clinic with a goal of providing our patients with the most up to date evidenced based health care.

How important is your website to your business? What does it do for you?

Our website allows us to communicate with our existing patients as well as potential patients.  It provides us with a forum to introduce ourselves to others in the community without the pressure of meeting in person.  It allows us to set ourselves apart from our competitors as a base to showcase our services and professional opinions.

Why did you decide to invest in a new website?

As young professionals, we know where people go to find information – the internet, and we wanted to be on it.  We took over a practice that was not online and realized that a large portion of our potential patient base wouldn’t find us in the phone book.  As advertising regulations are strict with our governing body, having a website lets us tell our patients more about who we are and the way we practice – something that we would be unable to portray in print ads or signage.

When choosing a company to work on your site what factors came in to play?

We were referred to Webnames by the Women’s Enterprise Centre in Kelowna, BC and I am very thankful for that. Having a (somewhat) local company working with us was important as we wanted to work with a company that understood our community and was available when we needed them.

Tell us a bit about your experience working with Webnames. How was the process? Did everything go as expected? Were there any surprises?

I was impressed with the customer service Webnames provided right from the start.  If the person I was speaking with did not have the answers to my questions, they didn’t keep me on hold, they had someone else call me right away with the answers and explanations for whatever I was looking for.  Even though we had to be patient with the website development, we were always able to contact our designer to check in on the process and could watch the site develop with the direct link they provided.

Has your new website had any effect on your business, either day to day or overall? If so, please explain.

We are still working on getting “seen” by Google and getting our website traffic up, but everyone who has visited our website has nothing but positive comments for us.  It provides us a place to communicate with our patients about the services we offer and somewhere they can go as a reference if they have questions or are interested about different aspects of health and conditions.

How easy has it been for you to manage your site and keep it up to date?

We haven’t made too many changes yet, but the training session was easy to understand and informative and we love the fact that we can change things on our site ourselves without having to wait in a queue for the designers to make small adjustments for us.

What would you tell someone who was considering working with Webnames on their new website?

We were very impressed with the customer support that Webnames has, right from the start we were never put on hold forever waiting to talk to a real person! We were also new to the business world along with the world wide web. Our designer spent a lot of time working with us to find a design and identity package that we were happy with. Despite not having direct instructions, Webnames came up with a logo and website that was exactly what we were looking for.
