CIRA President Bernard Turcotte Stepping Down

CIRA announced today that its CEO and President Bernard Turcotte will be leaving later this year. Bernard has played an important role in forging CIRA’s status as one of the world’s best-run country code top-level domains and has served Canada’s Internet community through CIRA since 2001. CIRA will soon be launching a nation-wide search to find the best candidate to succeed him.

During the transition period Ron Harbottle will take on the role of the Interim Chief Operating Officer. Together with Norm Ritchie, CIRA’s newly appointed Chief Information Officer, Harbottle will oversee day-to-day operations and assist the organization in fulfilling its objectives and mandate until a new CEO and President has been selected.

It has been truly rewarding to participate first-hand, and to witness the impact CIRA has made nationally and internationally to ensure that all Canadians have and continue to benefit fully from dot-ca Internet domain name registrations.”

Many of Webnames.ca staff have met Bernard over the years and we think he’s a pretty swell guy. We wish him the very best in all his future undertakings.
