Stephen Smith, President of Webnames.ca spoke to members of the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada (IPIC) following his .TEL presentation on Tuesday to the Domain Names & Trademarks on the Internet Committee.
Mr Smith presented an overview of the .TEL domain and the associated rules and policies. He summarized material from the Webnames.ca “.TEL Briefing Paper for Trademark Holders and Agents”.
According to Mr Smith “much of the focus from the audience was on the on the reconsideration period“.
.TEL registration applications for trademark holders in the Sunrise Registration period undergo a validation process by the .TEL validating agents, Deloitte. In the event that submissions are rejected by the validating agency, applicants may elect to pay a fee to have their applications reconsidered.
“The overwhelming feeling from IPIC members was that the 10 day period was too short for many firms to be able respond,” reports Mr Smith “and a period over around 20 days was felt to be more reasonable”.
Webnames.ca has a very close relationship with Telnic, the organization responsible for .TEL and many of the associated policies and Mr Smith assured IPIC members that he would pass along their comments and concerns.
