ICANN Approves Changes to .INFO and .BIZ Registry Agreements – The ICANN Board has approved requests from NeuStar and Afilias, operators of the .biz and .info registries respectively, intended to curb domain tasting. The changes limit the number of deletions during the five-day Add Grace Period (AGP) that a registrar can execute and receive a full fee credit. The limit per registrar is 50 per month or 10% of that registrar’s net new monthly domain name registrations, whichever is greater.

US DOC Issues Statement On Mid-Term Review Of DOC/ICANN Agreement – The National Telelecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA), part of the U.S. Department of Commerce, has issued a statement on its mid-term review of its current agreement with ICANN, indicating that “there was general consensus on the need to preserve the security and stability of the DNS and the recognition that ICANN is the appropriate technical coordinator of the Internet DNS. ICANN has made significant progress in several key areas, but most participants agree that important work remains to increase institutional confidence through implementing effective processes that will enable: long term stability; accountability; responsiveness; continued private sector leadership, stakeholder participation; increased contract compliance; and enhanced competition.” ICANN has welcomed the statement.
