Domain Name News – December 3, 2007

Dell Files Cybersquatting Lawsuit – Dell Inc. is taking a number of domain registrars and companies to court for a combination of typosquatting and domain tasting. Alledgedly the companies were registering and profiting from domain names that were confusingly similar to Dell trademarks, dropping many of them as the five-day registration grace periods were to expire, and cycling them from company to company and registrar to registrar. Dell has also filed counterfeiting charges.

.AU Domain Surpasses One Million Registrations – Australia’s .au domain has recorded its one millionth registration. As announced by auDA CEO Chris Disspain, the one millionth registration was for elite-finance.com.au.

.TRAVEL Policy Changes Announced – The Travel Partnership Corporation, sponsor of the .travel top-level domain, has approved new registration policies scheduled to take effect on December 21. Among the changes are: widening .travel availability to entities who are “significant participants” in the travel and tourism industry (rather than entities who are “operating primarily” in the industry), permitting the registration of any unregistered name (rather than limiting registration to names which the registrant holds or uses, such as trademark and product names), and removing place name restrictions.

  1. Someone at Google must have been listening, because now you’ ll be able to start excluding your Content Network Adwords campaigns from showing up on Domain Ads and Error Pages. Although I’ ve always preached that it’ s best to determine whether or not those placements will convert on your unique campaigns, you’ ll now have the power to test it yourself, without the need for insider help.
