VeriSign Restates Financials, Announces Resignation of CFO – VeriSign has announced a restatement of its financial statements going back to 2002 as a result of a review of the company’s historical stock option grant practices. Also announced was the resignation of Dana Evan as Chief Financial Officer. Stratton Sclavos had resigned as CEO in May.
U.S. Department of Commerce Posts RFQ for .US Domain Registry – The U.S. Department of Commerce has issued a Request For Quotations (RFQ) to manage, maintain and operate the .us domain registry. The contract for the current registry operator, NeuStar, expires on October 25.
WIPO Expresses Concern Over Proposal From Potential New UDRP Provider – The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) has written a letter to ICANN drawing attention to the role and selection of providers under the Uniform Domain-Name Dispute Resolution Policy (UDRP), and in particular expressing concern over the proposal from the Czech Arbitration Court (CAC) to become a new UDRP Provider. WIPO is one of the main UDRP Providers at present, and CAC is the sole administrator of the .eu domain’s Alternative Dispute Resolution proceedings. Among other things the WIPO letter indicates that a number of features of the CAC proposal, such as an appeal mechanism, would amount to changes to the UDRP itself, and that “these should not arrive through a ‘back door’ of provider accreditation.”

The paper was produced by a joint working group of the country-code Names Supporting Organization (ccNSO) and the Governmental Advisory Committee (GAC).
