ICANN has reported on the significant effect of a short term measure to reduce domain tasting by charging a per-transaction fee on all names deleted during the five-day Add Grace Period (AGP) if they exceed a defined threshhold. Names added and then deleted during the AGP declined by 84% from 17.6M in June 2008 to 2.8M in July 2008, and ICANN expects that the number of AGP deletes will continue to decline. A new consensus policy called the AGP Limits Policy is expected to be ready for implementation next month.

ICANN has announced that it is going ahead with the termination of ICANN-accredited registrar EstDomains effective November 24. ICANN has documented the original notice of termination, the registrar’s response, and a letter concerning the decision to proceed with the termination.

Kim Davies of ICANN has written an article entitled “Why the DNS is broken, in plain language”.

The minutes of the October 9, 2008 meeting of the CIRA Board of Directors have been published.

Burberry Limited has won a dispute over burberry.ca.

EMusic.com Inc. has lost a dispute over emusic.ca.
