Nominet Foundation Proposed – The Board of Nominet, the registry for the .uk domain, has proposed the establishment of a charity called the Nominet Foundation “for the purpose of public benefit to UK Internet stakeholders through education, research and the funding of suitable projects”, and has recommended a first year donation of 5 million pounds. Feedback on the proposal is being sought until December 17.
.UK Domain Name Industry Report Published – Nominet has published its first domain name industry report. The report includes both global and UK domestic statistics. Global information includes a table relating ccTLD registrations to Gross Domestic Product (GDP), and another showing country-by-country market penetration as measured in ccTLD registrations per 1000 inhabitants. UK statistics include registration and renewal information, results of a survey of British Internet users, an analysis of domain names including length and starting character, and information about .uk registrars.
