Former ICANN Chairman Expresses Nervousness Over gTLD Program – According to an article in Tech Daily Dose, former ICANN chairman Vint Cerf has said he is “nervous” about ICANN’s new gTLD plan. The program has also been criticized by Esther Dyson, ICANN’s founding chairman from 1998-2000. Dyson was succeeded by Cerf who served until 2007.
.XXX Registry Tops 80,000 Applications As Sunrise Period Closes
– ICM Registry has announced that the .xxx domain Sunrise Period has closed with more than 80,000 applications for domain names. The Sunrise Period was for trademark and brand holders. A 17-day Landrush period starts on November 8.
Compensation Recommended for ICANN Board – An independent expert has advised that ICANN Board members receive compensation, recommending an annual cash retainer of $35,000 for outside directors, an additional $5,000 annually for committee chairs, and maintaining the $75,000 annual compensation for the Board chair.
