ICANN Meets This Week In Senegal – ICANN is meeting this week in Dakar, Senegal. The new gTLD program will be a main topic, with others including IDNs, DNSSEC, IPv6, WHOIS, and ICANN’s search for a new CEO. Remote participation will be available for many sessions.

U.S. Government To Solicit Bids On The IANA Contract – The U.S. Department of Commerce is planning to issue a Request for Proposals to maintain the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) functions, including responsibilities associated with the root zone and the allocation of Internet numbering resources. The solicitation is expected to run for one month starting on November 4. Presently the IANA is operated by ICANN.
