dotMobi Poised For Greater Integration into Canadian Wireless Market

Late last month the dotMobi Advisory Group (MAG) and the Canadian Wireless Telecommunications Association (CWTA) signed an Industry Alliance Memorandum – a fancy term for agreement – to support one another’s initiatives.

Why is this significant?  By signing, the CWTA – Canada’s authority on wireless issues, trends and developments – has agreed to promote the development of mobile Internet services using .mobi domain names, as well as related dotMobi ‘best practices’ for mobile browsing, content, email, commerce and advertising.

Since September last year, almost 600,000 .mobi domain names have been registered worldwide and Canada continues to be among the top ten countries developing sites for .mobi domains.

As representatives of Canada’s wireless community, including cellular and personal communication service providers, messaging, mobile radio, fixed wireless and mobile satellite carriers, as well as companies that develop products and services for mobile use, it will be interesting to see if the CWTA’s support leads to an increase in the use and development of dotMobi compliant websites.
