Facebook Inc. Username Registration: Don’t leave your Brands and Marks unprotected

facebook.jpgFacebook Inc. has announced that beginning at 12:01 am EDT on June 13, 2009, Facebook users will be allowed to create personalized usernames for their Facebook pages, in the form “facebook.com/yourname”.

This new system could allow users to create usernames that include trademarks and brands for their personal profiles.

The cut off date for applying to protect your brands and marks is Friday, June 12, 2009.

Facebook Inc. has taken steps to help trademark holders protect their brands and trademarks. Information about this procedure can be found at http://www.facebook.com/help.php?page=899.

Should you miss the deadline and find that someone is infringing on your Intellectual Property, you can fill out the online form provided by Facebook Inc. http://www.facebook.com/copyright.php?noncopyright_notice=1.

If you are currently using Facebook and have a page set up for your products, services or brands, a great way to increase traffic to your page and increase your brand awareness is to use the FREE domain forwarding option included with every domain name registration with Webnames.ca to forward your domain names to your new Facebook branded profile.

  1. Thanks for the info!
I got my name as the username.
You don’t need 1,000 Fans to get your own username.
Your Facebook account must be registered before June 9 as the only criteria.
    Mike
