Helping to keep dot-ca domain names in the hands of Canadians
Offering you a chance to contribute ideas so that the value of your dot-ca continues to grow

Why the new procedures?
CIRA explains, “As a responsible and accountable organization it is important to CIRA to have an active membership, and to know who our members are. In order to validate our membership, steps must be taken to confirm every CIRA Member’s identity.”

What steps do I need to take? If you own a dot-ca domain, new and current CIRA members should follow this three step process:

  1. Fill out the short online form An email should have been sent to all Registrants before June 30, 2007 from CIRA requesting Membership Enrolment.
  2. Verify your information when contacted by CIRA by telephone It may take up to ten business days after enrolment for a CIRA representative to call you. If you did not receive a phone call from CIRA staff regarding your interest in becoming a member please contact CIRA from Monday to Friday from 8:00 am – 8:00 pm EDT at 1-877-913-5335.
  3. Confirm your membership using the membership key mailed to you.

Or you can download, complete and send in the paper forms.

The authentication process is lengthy and can take over a month to complete. Once you have taken all three steps, to ensure the process is complete Webnames.ca recommends you log in to the CIRA Members site. You can click on “Create your Member password” if you don’t have a password yet.

Is there anyway I may be exempt?

On October 11, 2006 CIRA Members may have confirmed their membership with CIRA either by completing an enrolment form and providing a copy of their ID or by completing a declaration form and having a prescribed witness sign for them. If you have completed this process you do not have to enroll again.

If you did not complete this process already, you have to confirm your membership by July 30, 2007.
