I was recently invited by PROFIT Magazine to judge their third annual Innovations @ Work Awards. The awards are designed to celebrate the spirit of innovation among Canadian small businesses, to give broad public recognition to small business innovators and to identify innovation role models and strategies that can help other entrepreneurs launch successful businesses or grow their established enterprises.
There was stiff competition and it was not an easy task to whittle down all the applications. The three winners of the Innovations @ Work Awards are:
Sensor Wireless Inc.
President and CEO – Wayd McNally
Focus – Food damage sensors
Founded – 2002
Employees – 8
Location – Charlottetown, PEI

Metaflo Technologies Inc.

Focus – Liquid waste treatment
Founded – 2003
Employees – 5

Blue-Zone Technologies Ltd.

It was great to see the level of creativity and entrepreneurship from the small business community across our nation! Congratulations to all participants and especially to the 3 winners.
Kudos to PROFIT Magazine and Rogers who presented the awards and are doing their part to showcase and recognize those that drive innovation in this country.
Thanks for writing about this, Cybele. I work for a nonprofit in the states that runs an annual small business award, so I enjoy learning about other, similar programs that are out there — especially since our program extends to Canada (and Mexico) to cover all of North America. My sense is that the Canadian government is doing a better job than ours of encouraging innovation in the workplace, and recognizing firms that best exemplify it.
