The Canadian Internet Registration Authority (CIRA) announced the results of its 2009 CIRA Board of Directors election last Thursday. The four newly elected individuals will take office immediately, each for a three year term.
CIRA’s Returning Officer, Eric Lay, tabulated votes from 603 ballots cast by CIRA Members who participated to elect three Candidates from the Nomination Committee Slate and one Candidate from the Members’ Slate.
Although CIRA reported a 20% increase in participation over last year, member voting – and interest more generally – appears to be discouragingly low.
Engaging Canadians has been a challenge for the organization and this year only three people were able to gather the required 20 indications of member support in order to appear on a board of director ballot. We hope things improve next year and that CIRA can succeed in drumming up more interest from members.
The results of the 2009 Board of Directors Election are listed below:
Nomination Committee Slate
Victoria Withers, 307 Votes (Elected)
Margaret Gilmour, 272 Votes (Elected)
Jim Grey, 269 Votes (Elected)
Genevieve Plank, 226 Votes
Christopher McCue, 225 Votes
Georges Courteau, 184 Votes
Members’ Slate
Barry Shell, 320 Votes (Elected)
Jeff Rybak, 259 Votes
Webnames.ca would like to congratulate Victoria Withers, Margaret Gilmour, Jim Grey and Barry Shell on their election to the CIRA Board of Directors and show appreciation to all candidates for their efforts.
