Small Business BC – Fifth Annual Business Plan Contest

Small Business BC is a non profit organization funded by Western Economic Diversification Canada and the Ministry of Small Business and Revenue.  It delivers services and government programs throughout BC.  Entrepreneurs can access services and information such as start up and requirements, government acts and regulations as well as business planning services, consultation, business seminars and a library.

Webnames.ca was a silver sponsor of this event this year.  Not only were we fortunate enough to judge the Business Start Up category, but we also had a booth set up at the event.  Thanks to all who stopped by to say hello to Shawn and Julie.

They held their fifth annual Business Plan Contest Awards Ceremony on 26 Feb 2008.  This contest is a free, provincial wide competition that is ope to all new and existing small businesses.  There were six finalists in two categories, Business Start-Up and Business Growth.

The first place winner of the Business Start-Up was Peragro Media which is an online travel guide that promotes Canadian Tourism.

Second Place went to Nima’ma Maternity, which is a unique maternity outlet that offers a comfortable and welcoming shopping experience for pregnant women who are looking for higher end professional lines.

Third Place was awarded to the MacStewart Brewery which is a microbrewery that combines old world brewing techniques with advanced brewing equipment.

First Place in the Business Growth category went to Monkey’s Playhouse which is a child care facility for kids 0-12 years old specializing in flexible schedules and learning programs for children with learning challenges.

The Second Place winner was Lambda Solutions, who provides e-learning outsourcing solutions.  They provide a cost effective seamless technology platform for creating, managing and delivering learning.

Third Place was awarded to Tremain Media, who create and distribute educational media.

The judges said that the overall quality of the presentations was excellent and they can’t wait for the awards next year.
