When Webnames decides to promote .ca names to people getting married, we are thinking that it would be great for couples to have bobandsuzi4ever.ca (or if she is a bridezilla, suziswedding.ca) as the place all the guests can find wedding related info before and after the big day.
So where are we going to place our banner and pay per click ads so that the happy couples can find them?
If you ask any Joe Schmoe around the office they might say “wedding.com” or “marriage.com”. Neither of these is Canadian and both of them are just ad portals – we want to be on sites that are the meat and potatoes of weddings.
Alexa to the rescue. Alexa.com offers web traffic metrics. It has lists of Top Sites available by country, language or in a category.
So if you put in “wedding Canada”, weddingbells.ca and frugalbride.com top the charts as the wedding sites in Canada with the most traffic.
We probably could have come up with Wedding Bells as it is a magazine but Frugal Bride? No way!
Getting independent confirmation of traffic metrics for frugalbride.com allows us to confidently place our “All Bridezilla’s have a .ca. Do you have yours?” banner ad on both top ranked sites.
Next year we might look at promoting .ca names to divorcees – bobsdivorced.ca – on divorceonline.ca, but until then we’ll remain dewy eyed optomists.
